Spring, the season of rebirth, whene nature slowly blooms again, when Italy’s Green Heart beats even stronger. Umbria, enveloped in fresh scents, fresh colours gets ready to welcome whoever wishes to dive into this pleasant atmosphere.
Umbria is a set of environmental frameworks, a sweet harmonious succession of landscapes and natural areas. The naturalistic aspect is the dominant factor, also demonstrated by the presence of well seven Natural Parks starting from Mount Cucco Park, established in 1995, which extends along the north-eastern border of Umbria with the Marche, includes the municipalities of Costacciaro, Fossato di Vico, Sigillo, Scheggia and Pascelupo; the area is rich in caves and is characterised by one of the most varied faunal heritages; it extends instead in the entire province of Perugia. Mount Subasio Park which involves the municipalities of Assisi, Nocera Umbra, Spello and Valtopina, the area highlights a mystical environment, Mount Subasio itself has assumed a spiritual value since ancient times, an aspect that was strengthened by the presence of the Franciscan order.
The centers of Castiglione del Lago and Passignano together with other smaller towns, are instead included in the Trasimeno Park, with which the homonymous lake, historically called the Lake of Perugia, is protected and enhanced. The smallest of the parks in the region is the Colfiorito Park, an area characterized by the marsh that includes rare flora species and hosts many species of aquatic birds and amphibians.
There are two River Parks: the Nera River Park, which takes its name from the river of the same name and includes the middle-lower stretch of its course up to the Marmore Falls, is a very diversified area, where it is possible to practice various sports from canoeing to kayaking, from rafting to free climbing; the Tiber River Park, a regional natural area that includes the river of the same name in the middle-lower stretch of its course, precisely from the Montemolino Bridge, which connects the left bank of Todi with the right bank of Montecastello di Vibio up to the southern limit of the Alviano Oasis.
The Sibillini Mountains National Park, concludes this naturalistic showcase of parks, located in the regions of Umbria and Marche, was established in 1993, includes the provinces of Ascoli Piceno, Macerata and Perugia, is a mountain range with Mount Vettore of 2,476 m. which rises in the heart of Italy.
